Parrtjima 2020 will present a unique and unforgettable experience at Desert Park, using the latest technologies to showcase the world’s oldest living culture in new and extraordinary ways.
This experience will include the MacDonnell Ranges show, an innovative site layout including a new meeting space created to experience Werte (Welcome) which features three signature light installations, Arleye (Emu) – Children’s Play Area, as well as the return of Grounded, an animated sequence of curated artworks projected on to the sands of Desert Park.
You can gather with friends and family at Apmere (home) located in the Desert Park courtyard to chill and relax after marvelling at the spectacular Ranges Show and illuminated sculptures.
Please note the Lighting of the MacDonnell Ranges show is best viewed from 7pm at the earliest, due to the levels of daylight.
Come join in the festival ambience created throughout Todd Mall festooned with lanterns through the trees and a kaleidoscope of lights painting the pathways in the evening. The beautiful Grandfather Tree at the crossroads of the Mall will be theatrically lit and accompanied by an audio recording by Traditional Owner Peter ‘Coco’ Wallace telling his story.
Eastern Arrernte Elder Peter “Coco” Wallace is a “kwertengerle” who has spent his life working for the protection of culture and country. A natural storyteller, Peter taught himself to speak English while working with different groups of people. He teaches youngsters as well as educates others about Arrernte culture.
